This is Columbus Union Station, the third installment, built in 1897 on High St built by Daniel H. Burnham of Chicago. Now located in the Nationwide Arena District. The original Union Station was located a few blocks to the east at High Street and today’s Ohio Center Way. The station was actually the third structure to hold that designation. The first Union Station was built in 1851 near the corner of the existing Nationwide Boulevard and High Street. This wood structure was quickly outgrown and a second union station was built just north of this site. The structure was much more luxurious than the first, and while this station was sufficient for passenger service, it presented a problem because 10+ sets of tracks now crossed High Street. Saved by heavy rains the night before, the Arch was not dismantled with the rest of the Station in 1976.
